OryzaNet Rice Research, Communication and Innovation Grants Available

Call opens September 2026

An immediate and critical research challenge that the UK is well placed to meet is how we effectively translate fundamental plant science to improve agricultural productivity. To help meet this challenge, OryzaNet are pleased to announce an upcoming funding scheme for pilot or small stand-alone projects (one year or less) that sustainably benefit the UK Rice Research Community. Rice researchers can apply for up to £10,000 to support (for example): scientific research, training, method and tool development, global collaborative engagement or business engagement. OryzaNet especially welcomes early career researchers (ECRs) to apply for funding.

The call will open for applications on the OryzaNet website (www.OryzaNet.com) shortly after the International Society for Rice Functional Genomics, to be held in London in September 2026. Applications will be assessed in January 2027 and outcomes announced in February 2027.

Please start preparing your ideas and look out for the full funding call in September!

We will manage the short-term open funding calls under criteria reflecting standard BBSRC eligibility rules. The scheme is aimed at researchers in UK institutes eligible to apply for BBSRC funding. Postdoctoral ECRs who are not eligible to apply for BBSRC funding can be a project lead by proxy. In this situation there needs to be an eligible named supervising project-lead to submit the grant application, but the ECR will be listed as researcher co-lead on the application and receive appropriate recognition by proxy for their role in preparing and writing the submission.
